Windows 11 KB5019980 & KB5019961 Updates Changelog

November 2022 Security updates are now available for Windows 11 versions 22h2 and 21h2. These cumulative updates are KB5019980 for Windows 11 version 22h2 and KB5019961 for version 21h2. If you haven’t restricted auto-updates, the respective update will download and install on your PC on its own. You will receive a prompt suggesting to restart your computer. 

In case you are not getting these updates via normal Windows Update Search, you may get them from the Microsoft update catalog as well. The updates will now be downloaded as standalone packages in the file format – “.msu“.

Windows 11 Cumulative updates Changelog

Here is the complete changelog for both cumulative updates KB5019961 and KB5019980 for Windows 11 versions 21h2, and 22h2. 

KB5019980 Changelog

  • Enhances the OS Build number to 22621.819
  • Improves the security of the whole Windows operating system. 
  • Addresses a known issue on Windows 11, version 22h2 that affects File Explorer. 

After you upgrade your operating system to this OS Build, your device could easily localize internal or external folders. 

KB5019961 Changelog

  • Improves the security of the whole Windows operating system. 
  • Includes improvements that were a part of update KB5018483 (released October 25, 2022). After you upgrade to OS Build 22000.1219, you might notice the following changes –
    • Miscellaneous security improvements to internal OS functionality.

Known Issues with these security patches

Before you proceed ahead and download/install KB5019961 or KB5019980 on your Windows 11 PC, do check the list of issues that might appear after the upgrade. 

KB5019961 (Windows 11 version, 21h2): Microsoft is not aware of any known issues with this security update for Windows 11, version 21h2. 

KB5019980 (Windows 11 version, 22h2): There are two known issues with this patch update and they are outlined below. Both these bugs apply to IT admins, so you need not worry about them. You may get to know about them by visiting the release note provided at the end of this article. 

Download & Install KB5019980 & KB5019961

By default, this security update will download and install provided you haven’t restricted Windows Update on your PC. You may enable auto-updates on your device and then reach out to the below path. 

Settings (Win + I) > Windows Update

Having reached here, click the Check for updates button on the right pane. The system will check for pending updates, and install them on your behalf. All you require afterward is to restart your PC so that this update installs without any issues. 

In case you don’t want to enable auto-updates fearing non-security update installing on its own, visit Microsoft’s update catalog and search for the KB number. From the list, pick the architecture that suits your device, and hit the Download button. Click on the top link to start downloading the standalone package. After the downloading completes, double-click on the setup file. Doing so will upgrade your operating system to the chosen Build number.
