Windows 10 20H1 Build 18890 comes for Fast Ring Insiders

Microsoft rolls out Insider 20H1 Build 18890 for fast ring insiders on Windows 10. There are no new features that come with this build release, still, there are some quality fixes and improvements. Today, in this article, we will discuss the key changes along with known issues of build 18890.

Twenty thousand and one Build is still under development mode. This is why it may contain certain bugs that require the clean-installation of Windows 10 on your PC. To remain on 19H1, navigate to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Insider Program before installing this flight.

Note: The Company has merged both i.e. Skip ahead and fast ring insiders on a common platform. This will make sure that both of them receive the same build from last month onward.

20H1 Build 18890

General improvements, fixes, and changes for PC

The key changes which came along with Build 18890 {20H1} are as follow-

  1. Microsoft fixed the audio service hanging issue when you test if a machine is licensed to use spatial audio.
  2. Earlier when users try to refresh button i.e. F5 or from the context menu, the desktop becomes very slow or even jammed sometimes. They have resolved this issue with Insider Build 18890.
  3. The team fixed the issue in which users are not able to access network shares in case they boot into Safe mode along with networking.
  4. They resolved the keyboard text predictions issue as well on this release. Now, this feature will start predicting the words whenever the es-US keyboard stays active.
  5. The Company resolved the cumulative update error that occurs when there is an update of the language pack is carried out in the background. In general, when this issue pops up, it shows error 0x800f0982.

Thanks to the feedback of several users, Microsoft has decided to halt the rolling out of Friendly Dates as a basic component on 19H1 Build. Regardless of what build you are currently using, the above attribute will fade away starting from today.

Known Issues- 20H1 Build 18890

  1. Back in 19H1 builds, there was an issue when you use anti-cheat programs during playing games. This either crashes the whole operating system or cause GSOD error. Microsoft together with anti-cheat and game developers have brought a patch to this. You must update the existing games to its latest version to avoid similar bugs on 20H1.
  2. Some Realtek SD card readers are still not working properly. The company is working on a resolution and may provide the same in the upcoming weeks.
  3. In case you work upon remote desktop sessions using an enhanced VM, the taskbar might disappear and instead, there will dark area only. If that’s the case, you should restart searchui.exe.
  4. You may observe noticeable lag while displacing emoji or dictation panels.
  5. Tamper Protection is turned off on Windows Security with the onset of Build 18890. In case you want, just turn them on again.
  6. There are some features in Start Menu or in All apps which don’t appear in local languages like- RU-RU, ZH-CN and FR-FR, etc.
  7. After upgrade to this release, scrolling down the mouse wheel may create a nuisance. If you are tackling this issue, browse to Settings > Devices > Mouse and alter some settings here like- Choose how many lines to scroll each time should fix the issue before regular reboot/ shut-down.
  8. If the fast startup is enabled on your device, night light may not work properly till you perform a reboot. To make the night light work again, follow this path i.e. Start > Power > Restart.

Known issues for Developers

Optional content like enabling developer mode may fail if you switch to Slow or other Preview Ring after installing 20H1 Build 18890 on your System. This occurs as optional contents are approved for specific rings only. Hence, you should remain on the latest ring to add, install or enable such contents.
