Patch Tuesday is the day on which Microsoft rolls out its latest security updates for Windows; KB5007186 is part of the Patch Tuesday cycle. The update includes both newly released fixes and fixes that were previously made available. If you are still on version 20H2, you will get Windows 10 Build 19042.1348. For users of the 2004 version, this will be the last security patch for consumer editions.
Microsoft has now released the second last security update for Windows 10 versions 21H1, 20H2, and 2004. This update is available through Windows Update. Furthermore, a direct download link has also been released for the offline installers of Windows 10 KB5007186.
You’ll see the following changes once you’ve installed KB5005611 on your device:
Windows 10 Version 21H2 and 21H1
This quality update includes the following key changes:
- Microsoft has included all of the improvements from Windows 10, version 2004 in this build.
- The build does not have any other issues.
Windows 10 Version 2004
The key changes in this quality update are as follows:
- Resolves an issue where some apps may have unexpected results when rendering certain user interface elements or when drawing inside the app. If you are using an app that uses GDI+, and it sets a zero (0) width pen object, or if the app uses scaling, you may encounter this issue.
Note: – The HoloLens update (OS Build 19041.1169) that was released November 9, 2021, is also included in this release. Microsoft HoloLens that are not updated to the latest OS Build will receive a Windows Update client update that will improve the reliability of Windows Update.
Known Issues for KB5007186
Microsoft Edge Legacy may not be installed on devices with Windows installations based on custom offline media or custom ISO images. The updated version of Microsoft Edge does not automatically replace it on these devices. In this case, you’ll encounter the issue if you slipstream the update into a custom offline media or ISO image without first installing the standalone servicing stack update.
In order to avoid this issue, slipstream the SSU into the custom offline media first before slipstreaming the LCU on March 29, 2021. To do this using the combined SSU and LCU packages now used for Windows 10 versions 20H2 and 2004, you must extract the SSU file from the combined package.
It has been reported that some devices do not allow the installation of new updates after the June 21, 2021 (KB5003690) update was installed. This includes the July 6, 2021 (KB5004945) update and later updates. If this error occurs, you will receive the following response: “PSFX_E_MATCHING_BINARY_MISSING”.
Microsoft is working on this problem.
If you install this update, you may not be able to connect to devices in untrusted domains when using Smart Card Authentication in Remote Desktop. At this time, a message might appear stating, “Your credentials did not work. The credentials that were used to connect to [device name] did not work. Please enter new credentials.” and “The login attempt failed.” in red.
This problem can be resolved by using Known Issue Rollback (KIR). In some cases, the resolution may take up to 24 hours to propagate automatically to non-managed devices like personal devices and business devices. It is possible that restarting your Windows device will help it accept the resolution more quickly.
Upon installing this update, you may run into the following errors when connecting to a Windows print server shared remote printer:
- 0x000006e4 (RPC_S_CANNOT_SUPPORT)
- 0x0000007c (ERROR_INVALID_LEVEL)
- 0x00000709 (ERROR_INVALID_PRINTER_NAME)
The following is a list of workarounds and current status for Windows release health:
1] OS Build 19041.1288
2] OS Build 19042.1288
3] OS Build 19043.1288
Note: Connection problems with printers occur mainly on print servers and are not common on personal devices. Enterprises and organizations are more often affected by issues related to printing.
