KB4586793 and KB4586785 – Windows 10 1809 & 1803 Security Update

Windows 10 versions 1809 and 1803 receive new security patches i.e. KB4586793 and KB4586785 on 10th Nov 2020. These cumulative updates increase their respective operating system to Build 17763.1577 and 17134.1845.

Apart from provding security patches to Windows components and Microsoft services, these updates bring some quality fixes and improvements. Overall, there are three different ways by which you can get this cumulative update. They are – Windows Update, Update Catalog, and WSUS.

  • Addresses an issue that might prevent Microsoft Edge from opening or might prevent you from browsing in certain circumstances.
  • Updates the 2020 DST start date for the Fiji Islands to December 20, 2020.
  • Besides this, there are security updates for the following –
    • Microsoft Scripting Engine, Microsoft Graphics Component, Windows Input and Composition, the Windows Wallet Service, Windows Fundamentals, and the Windows Kernel.

How to Get this Update

On your device, go to Settings (Win + I) > Update & Security > Windows Update, and click Check for updates. The system will search for any pending updates and automatically download/install them (if available any). 

If the above querying doesn’t reveal the recent cumulative updates, you may download the standalone packages by visiting the Microsoft Update Catalog Site. However, do install the latest servicing stack before applying the lately appeared patches. 

There’s no need to restart your device after installing these servicing stack updates. After you apply the latest SSU on your computer, use these steps –

  • Go to their respective standalone packages site and hit the download button. 
  • Make sure to download the security patch matching your system architecture.
  • After the download finishes, open the folder containing the setup file, and double-click upon it.
  • At last, when the installation finishes, your PC prompts to restart your device. Do the same.
