KB4489899: Windows 10 OS Build 17763.379- March 12 2019

Microsoft rolls out KB4489899 on 12th March, 2019 and this will take Windows 10 1809 OS Build to 17763.379. This update contains updates for Microsoft HoloLens along with some other refinements. Moreover the Company will release some update on Windows Update Client so as to improve its reliability. For the past few builds, Microsoft HoloLens doesn’t bring any major changes. Thus, this release is in fact good for HoloLens loving users.

  1. HoloLens tracking and device calibration feature have disturbed several users. Microsoft has already fixed the issue with KB4489899 patch update. You will notice the changes yourself in 10-15 minutes when you apply this patch up on your System. However, for best result, try resetting the HoloLens itself after update and it will work as a charm then.
  2. They solve an issue in which users receive “Error 1309” on their System. The same occur only if one tries to install or uninstall MSI or MSP types files.
  3. They also rectify the bug which in general, decreases graphics as well as mouse performance while playing games like- Destiny 2 on their PC. This issue gets generated after KB4482887 patch update.

Known issues in this update

Symptom Workaround
With this update, users may face authentication issues while using IE 11. This will happen only if 2 or more people use the same Account to handle different login sessions on same Server of windows Machine. It may include Remote Desktop Protocol, Terminal Servers Logons as well. However, you may receive following signs, not strictly though-

  1. Cache size displays 0 value or Empty location.
  2. Keyboard shortcut keys may hang in between.
  3. Websites may fail to load.
  4. There may be issue while downloading files or signing in.
If you notice any bug while operating Internet explorer, try to create unique user account. This will ensure that no two accounts start operating on same WSM. Disabling RDP may also solve this issue.

The Company is working on a fix for this, and if completed, the same will be implemented in an upcoming release.

With the installation of this patch up release on your System, apps which provide several options to control output audio may start to hang. This will occur only on machines running more than one audio devices.

Users who are using the default audio settings may not face this bug. Apps that may stop working properly are-

  1. Windows Media Player
  2. Sound Blaster Control Panel
  3. Realtek HD Audio Manager
A change in the Audio Output to default settings may solve this bug temporarily. Navigate to the following path and set it as Default.

Settings > System > Sound > App Volume and device preferences.

As an alternate approach, you may also go to the application’s in-built settings and choose “Default Audio Device” option. Here, we will set default settings on Windows Media Player-

At first, navigate to Windows Media Player > Tools > Options > Devices

Thereafter choose Device followed by Properties.

Here, go to Select the Audio Device using drop-down menu and choose Default Audio Device option from the list.

The Company is working on a resolution and it is estimated to appear by late March 2019.

How to get this update

Before installing the new release i.e. KB4489899, make sure to install the latest SSU (KB4470788) on your system. If you perform the same, this will enhance the reliability of the Update process. After this, you can download and install LCU KB4489899.

Note: SSU stands for servicing stack updates whereas LCU for the latest cumulative update.

The update will be downloaded and installed automatically from Windows Update.
