Dec 2020 Cumulative Updates – Windows 10 All versions

Dec 2020 Cumulative updates are now available to download from the Microsoft Update Catalog site. This is basically a security patch that addresses existing vulnerabilities on different Windows components and programs. Normally, Microsoft pushes a notification regarding upgrading your system automatically. If you haven’t received any prompt so far, either download it from Windows Update or from the official site in the .msu file format. 

The general fixes on these patches are as follows: 

  • Brings security updates for the following –
    • Microsoft Edge Legacy, the Microsoft Graphics Component, Windows Media, Windows Fundamentals, and Windows Virtualization.
  • Works upon a security vulnerability by restricting programs that run as a SYSTEM account from printing to “FILE:” ports. Additionally, make sure that the existing apps or services on your computer use a specific user or service account. Doing so will avoid any new issues related to this in the future.

Dec 2020 Cumulative updates are now available via Windows Update, WSUS, and Microsoft Update Catalog (standalone packages).

Note

  1. First of all, download and install the servicing stack update in order to avoid any issue that may arise while upgrading Windows.
  2. Make sure to click the download button only after confirming your version of Windows 10.

How to download and install the latest CU

By default, you will receive a notification regarding the latest build update. If not, you may go through any of the following ways to download and install the latest security update on your device –

1] Windows Update

  • Press WinKey + I to launch the Settings page.
  • Click Update & Security followed by Windows Update on the next screen.
  • Jump to the right side and click Check for Updates.
  • The system will look for any pending updates online and if available, this will automatically download and install the latest security patch.
  • Once over, click the prompt that appears on the notification panel, and Restart Windows.

2] Update Catalog

Alternatively, you may download the related standalone package in the .msu format. After downloading the specific update for your computer, double-click the setup file to upgrade your existing Windows 10 Build OS. 

Note: Make sure to download the file that matches your system architecture.
