Microsoft releases the new non-security cumulative updates on 30 March 2020 for different Windows 10 versions. This includes KB4554364 for 1903/1909, KB4554354 for 1809, KB4554349 for 1803, and KB4554342 for 1709. KB4554354 and KB4554349 update the existing Windows 10 1800 series build versions to build 17763.1132 and 17134.1401 respectively. Similarly, KB4554342 upgrades Windows 10 version 1709 to OS Build 16299.1776.

These patch updates solve one key issue that causes limited or no internet signal at Taskbar’s notification area. This problem came into existence whenever one uses VPN apps. Several Windows 10 users have constantly reminded of this bug and the company has finally addressed the same. In general, you receive an auto-notification regarding new updates. However, this won’t be the case for this release. If you do face any such issues on your PC, visit the Update catalog, type in the KB number, select your system architecture, and download the respective .msu file.

The KB4554354 release enhances the existing build version of Windows 10 1809 to 17763.1132.

  • With the build 17763.1132, Microsoft tries to fix the issue that shows a minimal internet connection status in the notification area. And sometimes, this connection goes to end on several devices. These devices basically usage a manual or auto-configured proxy, particularly with a virtual private network (VPN). In addition, this problem can also interrupt some devices from connecting the internet using applications that use WinHTTP or WinINet.

Known Issues – Users may receive “0x800f0982 – PSFX_E_MATCHING_COMPONENT_NOT_FOUND” error if they use Asian language packs on their PCs. To correct this issue, just uninstall then reinstall the language packs.

KB4554349 – Windows 10 1803

The KB4554349 release enhances the existing build version of Windows 10 1803 to 17134.1401.

  • In the previous update, several users reported an issue due to which they were unable to check the internet connection status in the notification area. This problem used to occur in the devices that use a manual or auto-configured proxy, especially with a virtual private network (VPN). However, in this update, the company has sorted out the internet connection problem.

Note: There are no known bugs on this build version.

KB4554342 – Windows 10 1709

The KB4554342 release enhances the existing build version of Windows 10 1709 to 16299.1776.

  • Microsoft expert focuses on a problematic case that stops showing the internet connection status in the notification area on devices. It mainly deals with those devices that use a manual or auto-configured proxy, mostly with a virtual private network (VPN). Because of this issue, some devices using WinHTTP or WinINet also face the obstructing of internet connections.

Standalone Package – In order to get the standalone package of any cumulative update, you should visit the Microsoft Update Catalog Site. Just browse to the following webpages, and download the respective .msu file as per your system configuration. 

Once you are on the Catalog page, click the Download button next to the available patches. Just make sure to check your system architecture and proceed accordingly.
